Brecht Workshop

This workshop is designed to introduce your students to Bertold Brecht who was a director and playwright well known for his political approach to theatre.  Brecht was frustrated with naturalistic theatre so created his own form of theatre that woke his audience up and removed the fourth wall between actor and the audience.

This workshop is run by a director with an impressive insight into Brecht's techniques and will touch upon,

  • What is Epic theatre?

  • Gestus

  • Verfremdungseffekt (alienation effect)

  • Breaking the fourth wall

  • Montage

This workshop is a great way to further expand on Brecht's techniques or as an introduction to the practitioner.  It is ideally suited for GCSE/A-Level students.
